Welcome!
To
Compassionate Communities Connect
To connect and inspire a community of educators who center empathy and compassionate civic action in their teaching and their school culture
How to Participate and Why You Should!
This space will collect all of the projects, activities, suggestions, and experiences that are shared among educators from Compassionate Communities Award member schools.
HEART will post 2 activities or resources every week that can be viewed here and will be shared via a link to our dedicated google drive folder.
Participating teachers can share through the google drive photos, video, slides, screenshots, or any other materials about lessons, activities, projects, resources, or up-lifting stories about work they are doing with their students that fosters justice and kindness for all, inspires respect for the inherent value of all living beings, and promotes compassionate action in our relations with other people, animals, and our living natural world.
Participants can also join our slack group to discuss challenges and supports in their transition to remote or blended teaching, specific SEL and trauma-informed work and resources they are using to address pandemic-related issues they see in their students, and to meet other educators who share their commitment to whole child, humane educational practices.
Compassionate Community Awards 2020/2021
We know how precious your time is, and want to make sure that your willingness to be part of our growing community of educators is acknowledged. The Award part of our CCA is usually a cash amount that schools can use to expand/enhance the service work that they began during the competition year.
This year we are instead offering individual teachers who contribute to our virtual community a chance to choose a tech support, app, or program that they think will help them in their remote and/or blended classrooms this year. Each month we will offer this award to acknowledge a teacher who has made significant contributions by sharing student work, ideas for activities and lessons, or problem-solving supports for colleagues in the community, that foster justice and kindness for all, inspire respect for the inherent value of all living beings, and/or promote compassionate action in our relations with other people, animals, and our living natural world.
The winning teacher will be able to choose - within a set dollar amount - a subscription to a tech resource for their classroom they might not have been able to access without financial help. We’re hoping that teachers will also share ideas for which tech resources they are finding especially useful, and examples of how they are using them, especially any remote learning resources that help students stay active and connected to the needs of the people, animals, and natural spaces in their communities.
